- This program is designed for a single Junior / Intermediate class (or any group of 20 - 25 students) and their teacher.
- Unless the school or class has a specific theme in mind we would suggest that the topic be open.
- The finished product will be a 10 to 15 min. performance that will take place at the end of the day before another class or classes. This will take place in the class or any other appropriate and available space.
- The facilitators foster a creative, inclusive and fun working environment. A contract cements the facilitators' and participants' communal goal of growing a play in one day.
- The facilitators lead the class through a mix of creative improvisation games and formal storytelling technique.
- The entire class is involved in the brainstorming and idea selection in the early part of the day.
- Later on, the participants determine the nature of the final presentation (as suggested by the story they have developed).
- With attention to the inclusive mandate of the project, the participants will branch into 'component' parts of the presentation... Including the creators of: props, costumes, sets and backdrops; as well as being: actors, musicians, singers, or a Greek chorus...whatever the story requires.
- Wind-down discussion focuses on: the experience of creating and performing a play, the issues raised in the exploration of the theme and the fulfillment of the contract that we made at the beginning of the day. We can share pride in accomplishment of our communal goal.
