Why:
As part of a national pilot project, Art Jam has two functions. On a local community level, Art Jam is a unique and exciting painting project that will help to foster a sense of community, spotlight creative arts and artists in our city and turn city waste into city art. On a provincial and national level, the project has agreed to be part of a documentation process that disseminates the tiniest detail of the process involved in staging a large scale community arts project. This information will be used to determine future funding policy surrounding community arts across Canada and abroad.

How:
Art Jams are artist facilitated, three hour workshops for adults. Each workshop is unique and involves cooperative game playing, storytelling and painting projects on recycled materials. Groups or individuals can sign up and take part in a workshop for the fee of $5.00 per person. Guerrilla Galleries are created gallery spaces for the completed Art Jam projects, usually outside, somewhere in the downtown area.

As part of the partnership with the Upper Grand District School Board, we have agreed to conduct 26 days of arts education at Torrance P.S.. Art Jam for the Schools project design will be similar to Art Jam, follow curriculum requirements and be tailored to each division. To date we have worked with over 1,000 school children and 500 adults.

I loved it. I needed this very much -
I’m going to give myself permission to be like this more often -loose and relaxed.
I was amazed how good it could be to be with other adults and just let go.
